Nature's Sunshine Company and Products

Nature's Sunshine, a publicly traded company (NATR - NASDAQ), was founded in 1972 by Gene Hughes. The company is located in Provo, Utah, and reported annual earning of $381.3 million in 2008. Nature's Sunshine is manufacturing a line of nutritional supplements and home products.

The company was the first to offer encapsulated herbs and nutrients as nutritional supplements. Today, Nature's sunshine is offering over 600 different products covering a wide range of supplements and home wares. The products are marketed in 30 countries through a network of 600,000 independent distributors.

Nature's Sunshine Compensation Plan

You can join NSP as a member by placing an order for $40 or more and signing up. As a member, you can buy at wholesale, recruit new members into your downline and receive commissions (called rebates) on your own purchases and the purchases of your group.

Retail Profits

You are earning income through retail profits and group commissions. The profit from buying a wholesale and selling at retail is up to 33% of retail price.

Group Volume Rebates

The total group rebate percentage increases with qualifying volume (QV, 1QV is about $1) in the group. For the classic plan, the rebate schedule is

You are paid the difference between the total volume and the sum of payments to members in your group

Assume that you and 5 members in your group are each purchasing 100QV = $100. 

• Your group volume is 600, and your total rebate is 18% of $600 = $108.
• Each member receives 10% of $ 100 = $10 for a total of $50. 
• This leaves a rebate of $58 for you.

For 9 members at 100QV in your group, your group volume is 1000 and your net rebate is $270 - $90 = $180

Once your group volume reaches 1,000 and your personal volume is at 150, you advance to Manager Rank and your group breaks away from your upline.

When one of your members advances to Manager, she breaks way, and her group volume no longer counts into yours. However, you do receive a 12% override on her volume.

As more members in your group advance to Manager Rank, you are promoted to higher leadership ranks, from District Manager to finally National and Global Manager. At higher ranks, you are paid on more levels of your organization. The payout schedule looks like this:

 
Compared to other compensation plans, the high override of 12% in the first level is rewarding you very quickly with substantial residual income, as you begin to build your downline. Note that the payout decreases with increasing level, allocating more of the total commission payout to the lower ranks. The average earning statistics are confirming this effect:

Because of the rapid decrease of payout with deeper levels, this plan is favoring wide organizations, with many managers at the first level.

Nature’s Sunshine has an alternative plan, the Legacy compensation plan that pays out more at deeper levels, and favors the building of a deep organization.
The Legacy plan pays you through six levels of Managers, plus a 1% infinity bonus.

Nature’s Sunshine Training

The company offers extensive training on products, health issues and business strategies. Training is delivered through conference calls and online. In addition to the corporate training, there are also a number of training opportunities from upline leaders, through email lessons, webinars, conference calls and personal coaching.

Nature's Sunshine offers to its members personalized websites for online ordering, and also permits the use of individual websites, subject to company approval. These web sites are good tools for easy ordering and for presentation, but they are not by themselves suited to generate customer leads

Nature’s Sunshine Opportunity and Review Summary

Nature's Sunshine is a strong and stable company with a proven line of high quality products. The compensation plans support the new distributor through high commission rates in the early phases of business building.

Your main challenge is in obtaining a large and steady supply of customer leads. Only about 1% of customer leads will buy at first contact, so you need to have both an economical lead source and a good follow-up process.
