Marketing is the key activity of you Market America business. There are two major commodities to market: the Market America products and the Market America opportunity. Initially, marketing the products must be your priority. Acquiring customers is not only a company requirement but also the most important source of income for your business.

Acquiring customers from your warm market may sound the simplest way to go; however, it cannot give you to number of Preferred Customers that you need to build your business. Market America is asking you to acquire 10 customers, which will give you about $100 in retail profits. How to go beyond that?

The "Base 10, Seven Strong" plan is asking you to recruit 2 distributors, one into each team of your Business development Center. If each of these duplicates this process, and all of them bring in their 10 customers, plus their own volume, you have 1200BV in each leg, and trigger a payout of $300.

In reality, this process does not work, because people fail to meet the requirements. They may continue as product users, but will not actively build their business. Recruiting then becomes a round about way of acquiring customers, but does not build a stable downline.

The answer is to focus on marketing the products. The best method for doing this is direct response marketing. This has three main components.

  • First, focus on one key product and find a profitable target market, an audience of consumers who are actively looking for a major benefit that your product can deliver. Build expertise in this area, and position yourself as a trusted solution provider.
  • Second, use the phone and the Internet to contact thousands of consumers who may be in your target market, and build a list of personal leads.
  • Third, follow up with your leads through proper prospecting, presenting and closing.

If you have chosen your product and target market well, fine-tuning these three steps will allow you to bring your retail business into profit. And this is the time to begin recruiting new distributors and training them in using the tools you have built.
